Managing people during un-certain times #COVID-19 ,#OMICRON etc….

Employers may be rethinking their plans in person for the upcoming Christmas season and the new year however deep inside most leaders are going through an un-certain tomorrow.

Skilled leaders are master navigators of un-certain situations. But many organizations need the assistance of HR Leaders to navigate this complex new situation.

We at EmmanualHRI have observed most three fundamental values  that needs to be reinforced during uncertain times.

Empathy

There has been recently a new of a CEO Firing 250 of his staff on a video call.  Definitely investor confidence matters but at what cost.  There is a famous saying said by a famous billionaire entrepreneur of an Indian Software giant “ Do unto others what you would do unto you” .  What if 250 of the staff reverses and points the finger at the performance of the CEO. A True capitalist understands and appreciates people management.  An HR leader has to be empathetic and appreciative. HR plays the role of a  coach , mentor and to be  a catalyst between the senior management and the employees.

I think we should talk more about our empathy deficit – the ability to put ourselves in someone else’s shoes; to see the world through the eyes of those who are different from us – the child who’s hungry, the steelworker who’s been laid off, the family who lost the entire life they built together when the storm came to town. When you think like this, when you choose to broaden your ambit of concern and empathise with the plight of others, whether they are close friends or distant strangers; it becomes harder not to act; harder not to help.

Trust

All organizations large ,small or micro begins and ends with one word Trust.

55 % of  employees feel that senior management employee-trust is paramount to their satisfaction. As the environment becomes more cohesive employees bring out their true selves .More often employees spill out new ideas and foster innovation. For the HR Department it means developing strong appreciation and rewards management. Senior Managers and HR Leaders have to publicly acknowledge the contribution of the team that deliver outstanding performance. Research has shown many employees trust their employers during the covid-19 crisis than their governments.

Offer Support and inspire people

After all its not possible to understand everyone’s feelings and emotions. But in house counselors play a role that can offer support at least in reducing the fears. HR Departments needs to work in-sync with  different teams in communicating the value mission of the company. Essentially the  value fundamentals of the organization.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Check with your team to understand the pulse of where they stand.  Listen carefully on what people are asking or saying. Most of the time people just need to hear they are “OK”.
